About the Texas Farm and Ranch Lands Conservation Program

Do you know about the Texas Farm and Ranch Lands Conservation Program? This project was founded in 2005 and works with the Texas Parks and Wildlife System to protect your working lands from fragmentation and development. Fragmentation can significantly decrease a farm’s productivity. Information and assistance with these and other farming and ranching issues can be found at Rasor Insurance, where we’ve served the Celina, TX area for over twenty years.

In addition to fragmenting the amount of your cropland, fragmentation can result in biodiversity loss. It can also result in a decrease in invasive plants, pests, and pathogens, as well as a deterioration of the area’s water quality. The project provides easements for the land to preserve the productivity of the land. Recent grants from the TFRLCP program have ranged in value from $27,000 to over $1,000,000.

The Texas Farm and Ranch Lands Conservation Program supports and provides education about how the project protects Texas land, fish, and wildlife in the following ways:

  • It promotes awareness of the conditions that qualify farmers for the easements available.
  • Facilitating the financing of qualifying land and water conservation projects.
  • Educating the public about the ecological significance of working lands and the need to preserve them.

Applications for the funds from TFRLCP are available by contacting the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Guidelines for project consideration can be found at https://tpwd.texas.gov/landwater/land/private/farm-and-ranch-/how-to-apply.phtml.
