Things home insurance won’t cover

Reading your home insurance policy is vital to your financial security. If you are under the impression that your home insurance covers everything that can go wrong, you will be disappointed if you have a claim. It could be an excluded hazard. At Rasor Insurance in Celina, TX, we have been an independent insurance agency for 20 years, allowing us to offer more choices. No matter what your insurance needs are, we will be able to help.

Flooding

Warmer temperatures have led to changes in weather patterns and rising seawater. This increases the risk of flooding all over the country. Texas is not an exception. Unfortunately, surface water is not covered by a traditional home insurance policy. You have coverage for a busted pipe that floods your home but not water coming in from outside. The good news is that you can have coverage for flooding through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). You need to buy additional policies.

Owner Neglect

Part of your responsibility as a homeowner is to maintain your home. You can’t put off vital repairs. If you delay replacing an aging roof and you get damage to the interior of your home, your insurance will likely deny your claim. If you get carpenter ants or termites, your home insurance won’t cover it since you should be getting treatment if you can reasonably expect that you may have an infestation.

Earth movement

It isn’t a good thing if the earth moves under your feet. It also won’t be covered by traditional home insurance. That includes not only earthquakes but sinkholes, mudslides, and landslides. You can get coverage for these things, but you must purchase a separate policy.
